People are dying. People are always dying, but Timothy Cartlin is convinced that something sinister and strange is at work in a series of mysterious deaths in Chicago. And as a self-described “funeral aficionado” who has attended over a thousand funerals, Timothy knows a lot about death.
First, a beloved police chief dies of a heart attack. Then, an up-and-coming political figure suffers a fatal aneurysm while delivering the eulogy at the chief’s funeral. When Timothy learns of a third victim, he suspects that these deaths may be related somehow. So he turns to the only person that he thinks might believe him: Hannah Miller, a brilliant graduate student studying epidemiology with more knowledge of the occult than she cares to admit.
Timothy will need all the help he can get, because he and Hannah just might be the next links in The Chain.
